Mums Leave Cage Arrives: Fall for The Cass Gilbert Fountain

We snapped this photo this morning of The Fountain. While the temperature is seventy-plus degress today, the Cass Gilbert Fountain will soon wear its winter coat of (plexiglass) armour.

The mums are gone and the cage has arrived - it's a seasonal 'rite of passage'.

The Ridgefield Fountain, which stands on the corner of Main Street and West Lane, serves as a defining and welcoming landmark to those who enter, a historical nucleus to those who call Ridgefield home. It was designed in 1915 by world famous architect Cass Gilbert who gifted the fountain to the town. Gilbert, who fashioned the Woolworth Building in New York and the US Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C., once purchased Keeler Tavern as a summer residence. He died in 1934 but his legacy in architecture lives on.
