About Treasurer Nappier

Denise Lynn Nappier is the first African-American woman elected to serve as a State Treasurer in the United States and the first African-American woman elected to a statewide office in Connecticut. Elected in 1998 and re-elected in 2002, 2006 and 2010, Treasurer Nappier is also the only woman to be elected Treasurer in Connecticut History. As Connecticut's chief elected financial officer, Nappier oversees $52 billion in state funds, including the $28 billion Connecticut Retirement Plans and Trust Funds, one of the nation's top performing state pension funds, and a $19 billion debt portfolio. Her high standards and financial expertise have brought integrity back to the Treasurer's office and professionalism to the management of state resources. The Treasury's Short-Term Investment Fund has been rated as one of the nation's best government investment pools, and the Fund's superior performance has earned the state and local governments and their taxpayers an additional $184 million during the Nappier administration.

Treasurer Denise Nappier recently announced the filing of a shareholder resolution with Alliant Techsystems, Inc. that calls for the company to annually report on actions it takes with respect to the Sandy Hook Principles, a set of measures aimed at curbing gun violence. Alliant Techsystems, through its Sporting Group division, manufactures and sells firearms and accessories for hunting, shooting and outdoor markets as well as sporting, law enforcement and military ammunition. The company has yet to respond to a September 2013 request from Treasurer Nappier to discuss the Sandy Hook Principles, leading to her filing of the shareholder resolution.
