Reps. Giegler, Scribner and Smith Applaud $30,000 Grant for Henry Abbott Tech

State Representatives Jan Giegler (R-138), David Scribner (R-107) and Richard A. Smith (R-108) today applauded the announcement that the State Bond Commission approved a $30,000 grant for the Henry Abbott Technical High School in Danbury.

“Investing in education always reaps benefits for the community and I’m happy this grant was approved as these funds will help support our students and provide increased learning opportunities and facilities,” Rep. Giegler said.

“As a state Technical High School Henry Abbott is very regional in nature and the skills the students acquire prepare them for careers while also benefitting the entire region,” Rep. Scribner said. “These funds will help the students and enhance the skilled labor force we are fortunate to be able to rely upon,”

"Connecticut has a real need for a skilled manufacturing workforce,” Rep. Smith, ranking member of the Labor Committee who also sits on the Higher Education Committee said. “Allocating funds to our technical schools will help ensure the training needed for a brighter economic future in Connecticut."

The grant approved today is for “alterations and improvements to buildings and grounds, including new and replacement equipment, tools and supplies necessary to update curricula, vehicles and technology upgrades.”

Abbott Tech will use the money to replace a plasma cutter.

The mission of the Connecticut Technical High School System is to provide a unique and rigorous high school learning environment that:

  • ensures both student academic success, and trade/technology mastery and instills a zest for lifelong learning;
  • prepares students for post-secondary education, including apprenticeships, and immediate productive employment; and
  • responds to employers' and industries' current and emerging and changing global workforce needs and expectations through business/school partnerships.
