Voting in Presidential Election by Absentee Ballot? Here's What You Need to Know

We have received a few notes from Ridgefield residents now away at college who would like to know how they can cast their vote in the Presidental Election.

You must have one of the following reasons to vote by absentee ballot:

  • Your active service in the US armed forces
  • Your absence from town during all hours of voting on Election Day (if you are away at college!)
  • Your illness
  • Your physical disability
  • Your religion forbids non-religious activity on Election Day
  • Your required performance of duties as an election official at a polling place other than your own during all the hours on Election Day
1. Download and print an absentee ballot application

2. Fill out absentee ballot application:

Step 1 · Provide your name, date of birth, home address, phone number, and email address

Step 2 · Provide the address where you want your ballot mailed

Step 3 · To receive an absentee ballot for the general election, check the box for “Election” and write Nov 8, 2016 on the line below

Step 4 · Select the reason why you’re eligible to vote by absentee

Step 5 · Sign and date the application

3. Submit the application

Send your completed application to Ridgefield town clerk early enough so that you can receive your absentee ballot and then submit your completed ballot by the close of polls on Election Day, Nov 8

4. Vote
  • Once you receive your absentee ballot, follow the instructions
  • Mail your completed ballot so it’s received at the address on the return envelope by the close of polls on Election Day, Nov 8
