Campaign closing statement by Representative John Frey

I am seeking reelection to return to Hartford to fight for the restoration of our state as the economic powerhouse it once was, and I know it can be again.  The people of our district, and of Connecticut have only one obstacle in front of them that is keeping us from joining the rest of the nation in recovery from "The Great Recession." That obstacle is state government.  Our state has no shortage of brilliant and hard-working people ready to make the state a success.  It's the crippling taxes on middle class families and employers that are holding us back.  These tax increases only go to feed greater spending, and it's time the state lived within its means.

I also think state budgets are a statement of priorities.  When Governor Malloy cut funding to domestic violence shelters this past session, I voted against it. Public safety and victim rights and advocacy are of paramount concern to me.  That is why I opposed this cut to domestic violence shelters, as well as legislation which would restrict the ability of domestic violence victims to obtain risk warrants against their abusers.  I have also opposed Governor Malloy's so-called "Second Chance Society" legislation which, among other things, provides early release to certain violent felons.  For my work in this area, I am proud to be endorsed by the Connecticut State Police Union, and the Ridgefield Police Union.

The bottom line in this election is that I want to continue working for you to make a state where seniors can afford to retire in the same state they worked and raised families. Their children and grandchildren shouldn't have to leave the state because of disappearing high-paying jobs.  Governor Malloy's "New Economic Reality" doesn't have to be our reality.  There is a better way, and I intend to help get us there.
