UPDATE: Deborah Low Statement on Ridgefield White Van Incident

 

UPDATE (April 16, 2014): At 9:30 p.m. STATEMENT FROM RIDGEFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS SUPERINTENDENT DEBORAH LOW 

This is Ridgefield Superintendent Deborah Low. This afternoon (Wed. April 16) the Ridgefield Police Department released a statement describing a complaint from a 9 year-old boy in Ridgefield who was playing outside and was approached by an unidentified male in a white van.

The suspicious individual is described as a white male, in his fifties, balding, with a mustache and beard. The male was wearing plain blue shorts, a plain black t-shirt and glasses at the time of the incident. The van is described as a newer model white work van with no rear windows and no ladder rack or markings. Although the intention of the white male is not known, the Ridgefield Police Department is actively investigating the incident and working with area towns that have had similar incidents to see if there is any connection.

Families are urged to be vigilant when their children are playing outside. Anyone who observes any suspicious activity or who has any information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Ridgefield Police Department at 203-438-6531. According to the Ridgefield Police, this afternoon at approximately 4:45 pm a 9 year old boy was approached by a white balding male who was driving a "nondescript" white van. Ridgefield Police explain, "He yelled to the boy get over here." "The van had no markings on it," added the Police.

The boy fled on foot to his home and told his father what had happened. The father and son both drove to the Ridgefield Police Department to report the incident.
