Important Storm Related Information from State Rep John Frey

Because we are expecting blizzard conditions beginning this evening and through Wednesday, I would like to share some important storm-related information with you.

The Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS) is closely monitoring the storm and is participating in National Weather Service conference calls to get the latest information on the storm's track in order to send out updates to all municipalities.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) will have its entire fleet of snow plows, including 12 loader-mounted snow blowers, prepared to deploy. The residual road treatment from the previous weekend storm will help in the efforts to pretreat the roads.

Here are some Items that you can include in a home emergency kit:

  • One gallon of bottled water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation
  • At least a three-day supply of non-perishable food for family members and pets
  • A three-day supply of prescription medication
  • Flashlight
  • Battery-powered or hand crank radio and extra batteries
  • First aid kit
  • Moist towelettes
  • Plastic trash bags
  • Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
  • Manual can opener
  • Local maps
  • Cell phone with chargers, inverter or solar charger
  • Extra fuel (stored in a safe container)

In the event emergency travel is necessary, fill up your car with gas and make sure to check oil and windshield fluid levels. Connecticut law requires drivers to remove the snow from vehicles. Failure to do so can result in a fine.
