Mobile meth lab operated out of a van is seized by State Police

On July 2, 2015 at approx. 12:50 p.m., Troopers from Troop C-Tolland were dispatched to the area of I-84 w/b exit 67 ramp in an attempt to locate a red Ford Transit van being operated by an “over-due” party.  The van operator, Sheng Clevenger, had not arrived at his destination and was considered missing along with his passenger, a 17 year old juvenile female.

On July 2, 2015 at approx. 1:00 p.m., Troopers located the red van parked in the McDonald’s parking lot at 74 Reservoir Rd.Rockville, CT, off of I-84 exit 67.  Troopers approached the van and spoke with the Clevenger and the juvenile female.

Upon further investigation Troopers noticed a large amount of chemicals in the van.  Troopers immediately recognized that the chemicals were consistent with the production of Methamphetamine, and that the van may be a mobile Meth Lab.  Troopers immediately evacuated and secured the area and contacted the Connecticut State Police North Central Narcotics Detectives, Vernon Fire Department, DEEP HAZMAT Team, and the DEA.  The Vernon Police Department and the East Central Narcotics Team were also on scene.

State Police North Central Narcotics Detectives and Special Agents from the DEA safely disassembled the Meth Lab and seized numerous items as evidence.  All of the hazardous waste and explosive chemicals and materials were seized by the DEEP HAZMAT response team investigators.  Also seized was a facsimile handgun.

Troopers took Clevenger and the juvenile female into custody and transported them Troop C for processing. The Department of Children and Families and the juvenile females’ family was contacted regarding the juvenile female.  Clevenger was held on bond and the juvenile female was transported to the Hartford Juvenile Detention Center.
