Ridgefield Police Offer Holiday Travel Safety Tips

Thanks to Ridgefield Police for sharing home safety tips for those traveling this holiday season:

- Do not post on social media that you are going away
- Ask a trusted neighbor to watch your home while you are away
- Activate your alarm system (if you have one) when you leave home
- Mail and newspaper deliveries should be stopped or arrangements made for someone to pick them up
- Have exterior lighting with motion sensors
- Set timers to turn on some of your interior lights. This will give the appearance that someone is home
- Make arrangements to have your driveway and walkway cleared in the event of a snowstorm
- Stop by the police department and fill out a vacant premise form. This will put your contact information on file in the event an incident occurs at your residence while you are away and we need to contact you
- Make sure all doors and windows are locked when you leave, even if you have an alarm system
