Town of Ridgefield: Residents Should Prepare for Dangerously Cold Weekend Weather

As we receive notice from the National Weather Service of extreme cold and strong winds entering the area this weekend, First Selectman Rudy Marconi would like to remind residents to prepare and be aware.

This weather pattern is expected to bring bitter cold along with very high wind from 4 pm on Saturday through 12 pm on Sunday. The temperature is predicted to be as low as 25 to 35 below zero with the wind chill factor.

No power outages are anticipated with this weather event. T

he Police Department (203-438-6531) and Fire Department (203-431-2724) are at the ready to assist residents in need. As always, call 911 in a true emergency.

Residents are reminded: Prevent Frozen Pipes * Keep garage doors closed if there are water supply lines in the garage or in walls adjacent to the garage.

* Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing. Be sure to move any harmful cleaners and household chemicals up out of the reach of children.

* When the temperature is very low outside, let the cold water drip from faucets served by exposed pipes or pipes in exterior walls. * Keep the thermostat set to the same temperature both during the day and at night.

* More information on preventing and thawing frozen pipes is available here . Protect Yourself from Freezing Temperatures Avoid unnecessary exposure to the cold.

When you prepare to go outside in severe cold weather, please remember the following:

* Most of your body heat is lost through your head so wear a hat, preferably one that covers your ears.
