Homeland Security to Assist Police in Search for K9 Officer Texas

Danbury Police K9 Texas went missing last night at 6:00 pm when his handler tripped and dropped his leash. The duo was with fellow officers searching for a missing Danbury man in the area of Wooster Mountain when Texas got away.

We spoke with Danbury Police Chief Williams who told us that State of Connecticut, Danbury, Ridgefield and North Salem Police are aiding in the search for Texas. "We have had helicopters searching and a Homeland Security Helicopter is expected to arrive at 4:00 pm," said Williams, who added, "The thing with a bloodhound is that he'll go all day, as far as we know, he's still following the trail into New York State."

Police are cautiously optimistic that Texas will be found unharmed. "Unless the dog physically hurt or got trapped to the point where he couldn't defend himself and a coyote or bear got to him, there isn't any reason that the dog shouldn't be fine for two or three days," said Williams.

Williams said his Department will meet with Connecticut State Police this afternoon to determine how to continue the search or what we will do K9 Texas is not located tonight.

When we were speaking with Chief Williams, a resident pulled up with a Box of Joe from Dunkin and some sweet treats. Williams told us that earlier in the day, a concerned local dropped off a bag of dog treats.
