The Rye Arts Center's latest fundraising campaign is using the crowdfunding platform known as "Kickstarter" to raise funds to launch its 3D printing and design class. With donations ranging from $10 to $1,000, the RAC hopes to raise $4,000 to fund the purchase of a 3D printer, materials, curriculum and training. Donors at each giving level receive incentives to donate, with the highest level of $1,000 providing naming rights to the 3D MakerBot printer.
The campaign follows an all or nothing premise -- if the full amount is not raised by the end of the 30 days, all donations received are returned. So getting the word out as quickly as possible is critically important! Local restaurants including Morgan's, Ruby and Rye Grill are helping to promote the campaign with signage at their establishments.
Innovation is critical to success in the 21st century, and 3D printing is just a new tool to add to the artist's palette. If successful, The RAC would be the first arts organization in lower Westchester to offer 3D printing and design.
