Message from Mayor Rilling Regarding White Supremacist Flyers

Dear Norwalkers,

As many of you know, yesterday flyers were distributed with a white supremacist message and placed in residents' driveways.

I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms: it is divisive and hateful. It is not what Norwalk represents. Our City is diverse in its racial, ethnic and social makeup, and that is both a strength and part of our rich cultural heritage as Americans.

We are blessed with a beautiful, historic coastal City, and dedicated citizens. We are moving forward together in Norwalk, working together to make sure that Norwalk is a welcoming and safe place to live, do business and raise our children. There is no place for racism here.

Yesterday I participated in an interfaith service at the First Congregational Church, and was happy to see the sanctuary filled with Norwalkers of all races, religions, ethnicities and ages supporting peace and inclusion - and each other. That is the spirit of Norwalk. I call for our citizens to stand together in solidarity against anyone who would divide us.

Please be assured that I have instructed the Police Chief to investigate this matter to the fullest extent possible. All efforts are being made to track down the person or persons responsible for this incident.

Sincerely,

Harry W. Rilling
Mayor of Norwalk
