Norwalk Fire and Health Departments Looking for Disaster/Medical Reserve Volunteers

The Norwalk Health Department and Norwalk Fire Department—Office of Emergency Management are actively recruiting volunteers to join the city's Disaster/Medical Reserve Corps (D/MRC). Volunteers will assist during public health emergencies and natural or man-made disasters, and will be involved in events promoting health, disease prevention and emergency preparedness.

During emergency situations, Norwalk residents and local community groups can provide help and support. The D/MRC's goal is to match volunteers with specific skill sets to the area in which they are most needed in an emergency. Volunteers will be trained in advance and called upon during and after a serious emergency or disaster situation. Throughout the year, volunteers will have the opportunity to expand existing public health efforts and to educate the public on the importance of safety and emergency preparedness.

Disaster Response Training for new volunteers will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Norwalk Fire Department, located at 121 Connecticut Avenue.
