Chamber Seeking Non-Profit Organizations to Sell Duck Day-Race Raffle Tickets

The Naugatuck Chamber of Commerce, a partner with the Waterbury Regional Chamber, is seeking local area non-profit organizations to benefit from the Chamber’s 10th Annual Duck Day and Race to be held Sunday, June 7, 2015, rain or shine, in historic downtown Naugatuck. Created in 2006 the Duck Day and Race has grown to over 20,000 rubber ducks being dumped by a pay-loader from the Whittemore Bridge to race down the Naugatuck River to be among the first 25 ducks to win the competition.

During the race, Maple and Water Streets will be transformed with food and craft vendors, live music, games, circus talent and much more. Businesses will exhibit their products and services to the thousands of event attendees. The Duck Day and Race event is once again being sponsored by Corso Printing & Engraving and Sarracco Mechanical Services, Inc., both in Naugatuck.

The Chamber is seeking local area non-profit organizations to assist their ambitions to sell raffle tickets to the general public for the Duck Day and Race. Lynn Ward, president and CEO of the Waterbury Regional Chamber and the Naugatuck Chamber of Commerce, commented, “This annual event draws over 5,000 attendees. By selling tickets, each non-profit organization gains the opportunity to raise money specifically to support their individual group’s mission and cause at no cost to them.”

There is no fee for non-profit organizations to participate, and the Chamber will donate 50 percent of all the proceeds from the Duck Race raffle ticket sales, sold by volunteers from each non-profit organization, back to the charitable organizations. Over the past ten years, more than 130 non-profit organizations have received over $300,000 back from their participation in the Duck Day and Duck Race.

“Non-profit organizations do not need to secure a minimum number of tickets to sell, nor is there a maximum number of ticket sales required for a donation to be made to the participating non-profit organizations following the race on June 7th,” stated Ward. “In 2014, more than 70 non-profit organizations and school groups collectively earned over $30,000 through their participation.”

To reserve raffle tickets for individual non-profit organizations to sell, organizations are asked to obtain an application form and complete the form by Tuesday, April 7, 2015. Tickets will be distributed to each organization on Tuesday, April 13 and collected on Tuesday, May 26.
