Young Professionals (Y.P.O.W.R.) Conducting Blanket Drive Through October 31st

YOUNG PROFESSIONALS OF WATERBURY REGION (Y.P.O.W.R.) LAUNCHES “WARM SOMEONE’S HEART BLANKET DRIVE”

The high-powered Y.P.O.W.R. - The  Young Professionals of Waterbury Region division of the Waterbury Regional Chamber is conducting its second annual “Warm Someone’s Heart Blanket Drive” that will run through October 31, 2015 with the support of Thrivent Financial. The ambition is to collect hundreds of new or lightly-used blankets and monetary gifts to support five local area charitable organizations. “Through the end of October,” stated Courtney Ligi, Y.P.O.W.R. Creator and Director and Waterbury Regional Chamber Director of Special Events, “we will collect much-needed blankets and monetary contributions to donate to Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries, St. Vincent De Paul Mission Homeless Shelter, Salvation Army, New Opportunities, Inc.’s Meals on Wheels Program, and Acts 4 Ministry Inc. to provide much-needed warmth to elderly people and individuals in shelters.”

Once again, Lisa LaBonte, director of New Opportunities, Inc. Senior Nutrition Services expressed sincere gratitude to the Y.P.O.W.R. organization for their blanket drive ambition. “Everyone involved thanks this organization for including Meals on Wheels for this much-needed blanket drive. We service about 850 home bound seniors everyday so we have plenty of need. In 2014, one volunteer hand-made 10 blankets that we distributed and several of the clients actually cried because they were so happy to receive a blanket. Many of our elderly recipients are always feeling cold so they are greatly appreciative of receiving blankets that they use as early as September and through every winter.”

Y.P.O.W.R.’s Ligi commented, “We launched the ‘Warm Someone’s Heart Blanket Drive’ in 2014, and the response was overwhelmingly positive with a collection of over 300 blankets and $500 win donations. We are very confident many people in our local community will once again contribute. Community service is a large part of the mission of Y.P.O.W.R. and we’re very pleased to be contributing to the well-being of hundreds of people in need in our area.”

The mission of Y.P.O.W.R. is to energize young professionals aged 21 to 39 who are looking to grow their careers in the Waterbury area by engaging them in positive opportunities for professional development, educational, social and community service.

Sponsored by several Y.P.O.W.R. Corporate Members, Bella Casa Verde, LLC, CT Community Foundation and the Mattatuck Museum, the “Warm Someone’s Heart Blanket Drive” is accepting checks by U.S. Mail at Waterbury Regional Chamber c/o YPOWR, P.O. Box 1469, Waterbury, CT 06702.
