Special Olympics Athletes to Compete at Southern Time Trials in Weston on May 21

Special Olympics Connecticut will hold its 2016 Southern Time Trials, presented by GE, at Weston High School and Middle School, 115 School Road, Weston, on Saturday, May 21st; from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Opening Ceremonies will take place at 8 a.m. This annual event will give athletes of all abilities from the region opportunities to compete in track & field, aquatics and tennis, after much training and preparation. Events are open to the public and there is no cost to attend. All are encouraged to come out and cheer on the athletes who will be competing!

Over a thousand athletes and Unified Sports® partners, representing 33 teams, are expected to participate. An additional 200+ coaches and 600+ volunteers are expected to support the event. In addition to competition, athletes will have the opportunity to visit Olympic Town - an area offering entertainment, educational and interactive activities - and the Healthy Athletes display, where they can learn about the benefits of physical activity during the downtime between their events.

The Southern Time Trials is the qualifying event for the Special Olympics Connecticut Summer Games state competition, coming up the weekend of June 10th -12th at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven and Hamden Hall Athletic Fields in Hamden.
