Acts 4 Ministry Received $3,000 Donation From Archbishop's Annual Appeal

Acts 4 Ministry, Inc. in Waterbury was generously awarded $3,000 in September 2016 from Archdiocese of Hartford Archbishop Leonard P. Blair. The donation was funded in part through the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal Vicariate Outreach Program.

Sarah Elizabeth Carabetta (right), Acts 4 Ministry Executive Director, stated that “This generous funding will help Acts 4 Ministry meet growing demands for brand new mattress sets for children and families throughout the Greater Waterbury area. Our not-for-profit organization has recently received an unprecedented influx of requests for furniture for people-in-need. In one recent week alone, we received 60 new phone call requests.” Photographed receiving the check with Mrs. Carabetta was Karyn Thompson of Cheshire, Acts 4 Ministry Volunteer Coordinator.

The mission of Acts 4 Ministry is to help individuals and families in financial distress with new and reusable items. Those in need are able to go to Acts 4 Ministry’s Thomaston Avenue retail shop to personally select, at no charge, clothing, dishes, glassware, housewares, and other items to meet basic needs. Community members in need of furniture are asked to provide a $50 delivery fee or complete 10 hours of volunteer work at Acts 4 Ministry to receive needed donations.

“Acts 4 Ministry is dedicated to building relationships with people while providing them with the basics of daily living needs. To achieve this, we partner with churches, social service agencies, and public schools to help identify and serve people with these needs regardless of their faith, race, creed, or national origin, or their willingness to participate in religious activities.”

The Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, sponsored by the Archdiocese of Hartford and its parishes is celebrating the 20th year of the Vicariate Outreach Program. The Appeal has assisted tens of thousands of individuals, regardless of race, religion or color, across the Archdiocese of Hartford with health care, education, housing, emergency expenses, and numerous additional areas.

It is through the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal Vicariate Outreach Program, begun in 1997, and the generosity of its donors, that the Appeal can assist a wide variety of such community-based charitable organizations as Acts 4 Ministry, Inc. throughout Hartford, New Haven and Litchfield Counties. Each year, pastors and administrators throughout the Archdiocese are asked to recommend charities that should be supported.
