Y.P.O.W.R. Launches "Warm Someone's Heart Blanket Drive" - 2 Southbury Dropoff Locations

Y.P.O.W.R.-YOUNG PROFESSIONALS OF WATERBURY REGION-LAUNCH “WARM SOMEONE’S HEART BLANKET DRIVE”

The high-powered Y.P.O.W.R. - Young Professionals of Waterbury Region division of the Waterbury Regional Chamber – has organized a “Warm Someone’s Heart Blanket Drive” that will run through October 31, 2014. The ambition is to collect hundreds of new or lightly-used blankets and monetary gifts to support four local area charitable organizations. “Through the end of October,” stated Courtney Ligi, Y.P.O.W.R. Creator and Director and Waterbury Regional Chamber Director of Special Events, “we will collect much-needed blankets and monetary contributions to donate to Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries, St. Vincent De Paul Mission Homeless Shelter, Salvation Army and New Opportunities, Inc. Meals on Wheels Program to provide much-needed warmth to elderly people and individuals in shelters.”

Lisa LaBonte, director of New Opportunities, Inc. Senior Nutrition Services expressed sincere gratitude to the Y.P.O.W.R. organization for their blanket drive ambition. “Thank you for thinking of Meals on Wheels for your blanket drive. We service about 850 homebound seniors everyday so we do have plenty of need. Last year, we had one volunteer who made 10 blankets that we distributed and several of the clients actually cried because they were so happy to receive a blanket. One of our Meals on Wheels drivers commented that one blanket recipient was always cold so she really appreciated receiving a blanket and had it on her everyday throughout the fall and winter.”

Y.P.O.W.R.’s Ligi commented, “This is the first year we have launched the ‘Warm Someone’s Heart Blanket Drive’,” explained Ligi, “and we are very confident many people in our local community will want to contribute, especially since cold weather has already begun in mid-September. Community service is a large part of the mission of Y.P.O.W.R. and we’re very pleased to be contributing to the well-being of literally hundreds of people in need in our area.”

The mission of Y.P.O.W.R. is to energize young professionals aged 21 to 39 who are looking to grow their careers in the Waterbury area by engaging them in positive opportunities for professional development, educational, social and community service.

Sponsored by several Y.P.O.W.R. Corporate Members, Bella Casa Verde, LLC, Crowne Plaza Hotel in Southbury and CT Community Foundation, the “Warm Someone’s Heart Blanket Drive” is accepting checks by U.S. Mail and at blanket drop off locations throughout the Greater Waterbury region.
