Thanksgiving Mattress Drive Launched to Benefit Acts 4 Ministry

A Thanksgiving Mattress Drive to Benefit Acts 4 Ministry, Inc. in Waterbury was officially launched by prominent Waterbury-area attorney Timothy C. Moynahan (center) to benefit the needs of the non-denominational, non-profit organization. In front of his offices at 60 Main Street North in Waterbury, Moynahan officially launched the Mattress Drive with provision of a pledge of support to (l to r) to David Rogers, Acts 4 Ministry Board Chairman and Sarah DiMeo-Carabetta, executive director of Acts 4 Ministry.

Timothy Moynahan, Esq. has been practicing law in the Waterbury region since 1964. He and The Moynahan Law Firm focus their practice on personal injury and criminal defense while collaborating on corporate and commercial law, appellate law, employment and labor, estate and probate, family law and domestic relations, immigration, intellectual property, international law, real estate and workers’ compensation.

The ambition of Acts 4 Ministry is to serve the needs of families and individuals who are in dire financial distress and have lost their homes and most of their possessions due to fire, flood, or other unexpected and devastating life events. “Acts 4 Ministry is not a church or affiliated with a religious organization,” DiMeo-Carabetta explained. “We are a collaborative group of a board of directors, staff and volunteers who work to meet the physical needs of other people. To achieve that goal, we collect and distribute, at no charge to recipients, clothing, furniture, and household wares. Each year we distribute clothing to nearly 4,000 people, and over 1,000 pieces of furniture and housewares to people of varying income levels throughout the Greater Waterbury area regardless of their race, religion or creed.”

Located at 1713 Thomaston Avenue in Waterbury, Acts 4 Ministry’s building also features a store environment where people with immediate needs can select clothing, furniture and household items. “Individuals and families can come here to personally select clothing, dishes, glassware, furnishings, and other basic needs at no charge. They are frequently referred to us by other charitable organizations or service organizations and we provide them with an atmosphere which preserves their dignity and allows them to select what they personally need vs. being handed clothing or furnishings they do not desire. This is a respectful environment where everyone is treated with caring support,” stated DiMeo-Carabetta.

For the Thanksgiving Mattress Drive, Acts 4 Ministry is seeking donations to purchase a minimum of 20 sets of full and queen-sized mattress sets which will cost approximately $5,000. With support from Sandy Marino, owner of Sandy’s TV & Appliances in Wolcott to procure the mattress sets, the ambition will be to deliver the sets to families-in-need shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday.
