The Art of the Pysanka Egg at the #SouthburyLIbrary!

On Thursday, March 26th at the Southbury Public Library, Gloria Horbaty will give a presentation on the art of pysanka. The ancient art of the pysanka, at least 2,000 years old, evolved from pagan people who associated the egg with the sun to 988 A.D. when Ukrainians accepted Christianity and adopted Christian significance to the egg. The meaning of the designs on the pysanka will be explained and an actual demonstration will be presented.

Mrs. Horbaty has been lecturing, demonstrating and instructing the pysanka since 1973 throughout Central and Southern Connecticut area.  She has appeared on television shows including Good Morning Connecticut, A. M. Connecticut and Connecticut Style – Channel WTNH-TV8 – and at ethnic festivals, libraries, schools, stores, convalescent hospitals and organizations.  She also teaches in the Wallingford Adult Education Program.

The program begins at 7:00pm in the Kingsley Room at the Southbury Library. If you would like more information on this event and other programs offered at the Southbury Library, call 203-262-0626 ext. 130 or visit their website here.
