Homage to French Poets

Friday, April 10 at 7 PM

The Alliance Française of Northwestern CT invites you to celebrate National Poetry month with recitations of original French poetry written by Brian Denyer, retired teacher of French and Literature for +30 years at the Taft School and AFNWCT Board member.

From humorous to inspirational poetry, this program begins with Denyer's verse response to the French classic poets (e.g. du Bellay, La Fontaine, Molière).  Moving forward onto the more modern forms, his poetry will imitate the styles of Baudelaire and Paul Valéry. For each poet, he will provide commentary on the poetic attitudes of the time period. To conclude, participants will create an original "Group" poem in French.  Hand-outs of the selected poetry using a parallel text translation will be available.

This event is open to the public and will take place at the AF Center in Southbury located at 1 Pomperaug Office Park, Southbury, CT  06488. Light refreshments will be served following the presentation.

Please RSVP before April 6 by sending a check made payable to AFNWCT to the address above or CLICK HERE to go to their website to pay on-line.

Admission is $15 ($10 for AFNWCT Members).
