How You Can Help Someone in Need in #Southbury

The Southbury Needy Fund Holiday gift program for Southbury’s needy children is now underway. For 36 years the Fund has coordinated new clothing and toys for needy children. For Christmas 2013 the Needy Fund provided new clothing and toys for 168 children from 80 Southbury needy families. We expect this year’s list from Social Services to be around the same number of children.

The Town’s Social Services Director, Sandy Saren, provides the Fund with the families eligible for the program. The Fund then goes out to the community who has made the program an overwhelming success each year by donations of new clothing or monetary contributions.

Support is received from many wonderful residents, as well as churches, all the offices in the town hall, highway department, Library, PES, GES and LMES elementary schools, many community organizations and businesses such as banks, financial offices, real estate offices, doctor’s offices, and restaurants.

Each Christmas the children on the Needy Fund list receive new outfits, pajamas, sweaters, winter hat and mittens and toys. Special needs such as winter coats, snow pants, winter boots, shoes and blankets are also provided.

The Southbury Needy Fund operates on a year-round basis providing emergency services to Southbury residents when there are no other sources available. The Christmas gift program, however, continues to be the focal point of the fund.

As in the past, 100% percent of the money and gifts collected go to the families in need and all administrative services are donated. Tax Deductible donations are accepted year around and can be sent to the Southbury Needy Fund, Inc., P. O. Box 72, Southbury, CT 06488.

Anyone interested in buying new clothing for a child on this year’s list need to contact Sharon M. Lieber prior to December 4th at 203-264-8743 or via e-mail at Southbury1@aol.com for information.
