June is Dog License Month

All dogs, large and small, must be must be licensed in the month of June.   This is a Connecticut State Law.   Licenses cannot be sold until June 1st.

The dog licensing reminder sign will be in front of Town Hall, but no reminder cards will be mailed out.

All dogs in the State of Connecticut (six) months old or older must be licensed each year in the town where they reside in the month of June. The fee for the license is $8.00 if the dog is neutered or spayed and $19.00 if it is not. Current rabies certificate is required for all dogs; and a neutered/spayed certificate is required for dogs that will be licensed for the first time or if recently neutered or spayed. It is very important that you bring in the required certificates since this office will not call the veterinarian.

Please fill out the dog license application - www.southbury-ct.org/doglicenses - and return it to the Town Clerk’s Office either in person or by mail with the proper fee and certificates.

Dog licenses may be obtained in person beginning June 1, 2015 at the Town Clerk’s Office, 501 Main Street South, Southbury, CT 06488 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:30p.m. on Wed.; and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00p.m. on Friday.

Licenses will also be sold on Sunday June 7, 2015 from 1:00 P. M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Town Garage on Peter Road during the rabies clinic.

If a license is obtained by mail include the application; a check for the proper fee made payable to the Town of Southbury; all required certificates (rabies, neutered/spayed) and a self-addressed stamped envelope; and mail to: Town Clerk, Town of Southbury, 501 Main Street South, Southbury, CT 06488. All certificates will be returned with the license and tag.

Dogs that are not licensed in the month of June will pay a penalty $1.00 for each month thereafter.

Also any unlicensed dog will be subject to a $75.00 infraction from the Animal Control Officer.

Any dog or cat over the age of three (3) months must have a rabies vaccination by Connecticut law or be fined $136.00.
