Dog Licenses Need to be Renewed

June is dog licensing month. It is a state law that all dogs over 6 months of age must be licensed in the town they reside in during this month.

Records indicate that as of today many Southbury residents have not licensed their dogs for 2014-2015.

Yearly licensing fee is $8.00 for a spayed/neutered dog and $19.00 for non-neutered/spayed dogs. Per State Statute, there is a $1 penalty fee per month when an owner fails to license a dog by the June 30 deadline.

Dog licenses can be obtained via either walk-in or mail-in registration.

All new and renewal licenses require a copy of the dog's current rabies certificate from its veterinarian. Licenses for a new dog that has not been licensed in the prior year also require a copy of the spayed/neutered certificate from its veterinarian, if applicable.

To obtain a license via walk-in, please bring the required documents and payment to the Town Clerk's Office at the Southbury Town Hall at 501 Main Street South, Southbury, CT 06488.

To obtain a license via mail-in, you must send a current rabies certificate, a copy of the spayed/neutered certificate (if applicable), a check made out to the Town Clerk in the proper amount, and a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Mail this to Town Clerk, 501 Main Street South, Southbury, CT 06488 and you will receive your dog license by return mail.

If you no longer have the dog or if the dog is deceased, please notify our office immediately at 203-262-0613 or 203-262-0657.
