Guess Who Came To Visit?

This week, as Gainfield Elementary School students came off their buses or were dropped off, they were surprised to see two well-known “faces” greeting them. Calvin the Cougar, their friendly mascot, was joined by a special guest familiar to many of the students, Clifford the Big Red Dog!

Calvin the Cougar and Clifford the Big Red Dog welcomed all children as they came in. They were available for hugs, high fives and photographs. The kids were very excited and really enjoyed seeing both characters. Many children had huge smiles on their faces as they started their school day.

Clifford was also on hand to remind parents, students and staff, about the Scholastic Book Fair held this week at Gainfield by the Gainfield PTO. Scholastic Book Fairs offer many schools in the area an opportunity to build up their media center shelves, both classroom and student's home libraries, as well as raise funds for educational materials and ultimately connect kids with books.

Each individual classroom had an opportunity to purchase books in their specific reading level and interests. Parents also had the chance to come in during the K-2nd grade Open House Tuesday evening, to purchase books for their children as well as fulfill teacher's “Wish Lists” for their respective classrooms for everyone to enjoy.

For more information on Scholastic Book Fairs or for ideas on how to engage your children in reading, see their website.
