T.E.E.N. Event a Success!

On Saturday, December 6th, the Southbury Parks & Recreation Department hosted the first event planned by the Teen Extracurricular Event Network (T.E.E.N.). The event, a Winter Wonderland Party, was open to 7th and 8th graders residing in Southbury and Middlebury. A committee of girls from Rochambeau Middle School, led by Jacqueline Navas, publicized the upcoming party within the middle schools, and created winter decorations, transforming the event room into a veritable winter wonderland.

For three hours, over 60 teens danced to music played by DJ’s Andrew Baggett and Jack Rupff, students at Pomperaug High School. Explosive Entertainment generously provided a photo booth and Santa and Mrs. Claus (Mr. and Mrs. Ernst) doled out ice cream. Starbucks donated hot chocolate. Chaperones included parents and members of the Pomperaug High School’s chapter of the Spanish Honor Society.

Feedback during and following the event was overwhelmingly positive and more events are being planned for 2015.

T.E.E.N. is a committee of parents, community leaders and local teens who work together to create fun events for our area teens. The events are student-led with adult guidance.

The T.E.E.N. Committee is planning future events for Region 15 Middle and High School students. The next T.E.E.N. Committee is January 7th, 7:00pm at Southbury Parks and Recreation. All parents and teens are welcomed to attend the meeting and also become part of the committee.
