Writing Memoir Workshop at Newton Adult Ed

Have you been inspired to record the transforming events of your life either in memoir form or with a short personal essay? Beginning Thursday, October 8 Newtown Adult Education is offering a 6 week Memoir and Personal Essay Writing class which will be held from 6:30-8:30pm at Newtown High School.

This workshop will be all about the writing with an emphasis on craft. Here, by using storytelling skills, we’ll explore the various ways to turn personal stories into compelling reading incorporating dialogue, description, setting and theme. The first part of the class will be devoted to exploring current, popular memoirs and essays. The remainder of the workshop will encompass observations from the class on your own work in a supportive, safe environment. This workshop is for beginning writers as well as those who are already working on a piece. We all have stories to tell. Is it time to tell yours?

Taught by Priscilla Whitley, the founder and facilitator of The Candlewood Writers Workshop in Danbury, Priscilla attended the University of Missouri School of Journalism as well as Fordham University and has worked at Simon and Schuster Publishing. Her essays have appeared in numerous publications including Weston Magazine Group, Brain Child Magazine Blog, Chicken Soup for the Soul, Scary Mommy as well as placing first in The Westport Arts Center Memoir Contest. priscillawhitley.wordpress.com
