THE FOREIGNER opens at Town Players’ Little Theatre in Newtown June 3

THE FOREIGNER, a farce by Larry Shue, opens at Town Players’ Little Theatre on Friday, June 3.

THE FOREIGNER takes place in a fishing lodge in rural Tilghman County, Georgia. Two Englishmen, Froggy (Nick Kaye of Bethel) and Charlie (Bob Filipowich of Fairfield), arrive as guests, with Charlie having agreed to accompany Froggy on the trip after his sick wife begged him to go. Charlie’s shyness keeps him from socializing with other guests – in addition to being shy, he is depressed about his wife's illness and cannot find the words to reply to others. In order to alleviate his friend’s stress, Froggy tells everyone that Charlie cannot talk because he is a “foreigner” from an exotic country, and does not understand English. Taking Froggy’s claim at face value, the lodge's guests quickly begin revealing their secrets, and Charlie soon discovers quite a few delicious scandals.

Matthew Broderick starred in THE FOREIGNER at the Roundabout Theater in New York in 2004.

Directed by Timothy Huebenthal of Southbury, THE FOREIGNER also features the talents of Frank Arnone of Newtown, Tony Benedetti of Beacon Falls, Bryn Berg of Westbrook, and Jennifer Weiss of Fairfield.
