ZREC BID AWARDED TO SOUTHBURY

Jordan Energy, working on behalf of the Town of Southbury has been awarded the ZREC (Zero Emissions Renewable Energy Credit) bid by Eversource. This news adds a significant incentive to Jordan Energy’s proposed solar project within the Town and initiates the following activities:

·       During the next 15 days, Jordan Energy will prepare an RFP (Request for Proposal) for qualified engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firms interested in building the solar facility abutting the current transfer station on Kettletown Road.

·       Within the next three weeks, Jordan Energy will conduct a site visit for invited RFP candidates.

·       Jordan Energy will evaluate the RFP responses to finalize the core economics of the project and submit a draft 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to the Town of Southbury for review by early September. Included in the draft PPA will be relevant explanatory information regarding project construction logistics, the price of power used within the PPA and important timelines.

·       Thereafter, the Town and Jordan Energy will work together to finalize the terms of the agreement with the goal of having a fully signed document by December 1, 2015.

“We are excited to be embarking on the road toward renewable energy usage”, said First Selectman Ed Edelson. “I look forward to working with Jordan Energy to provide the information that will clearly explain the potential cost savings to the taxpayers of Southbury.  The Board of Finance and Board of Selectmen will then make the appropriate decision.”

This is one more step towards implementing the goals in the Town’s Plan of Conservation and Development regarding solar and renewable energy.  Earlier this year, the Town completed the Solarize Southbury program.  Demonstration Solar Panels were installed last year on the Library.

Significant energy efficiency projects including conversion to Natural Gas have also been completed in the last few years that have significantly reduced the Town’s energy bill.
