Double Fatal Car Accident on Sherman Hill Road in Woodbury

On May 9, Woodbury Police responded to a double fatal accident.

A vehicle driven by Edward Bertulis of Waterbury was traveling east on Sherman Hill Road approximately 100 feet east of Tuttle Road in the town of Woodbury. A second vehicle driven by Christopher Berman of Cheshire was traveling east on Sherman Hill road directly behind Bertulis' vehicle.

Bertulis was struck in the rear end by the front end. Following the initial contact between both vehicles, Berman continued east, veering off the roadway to the right, down a small embankment and overturned into a small body of water. The vehicle driven by Bertulis veered off the roadway to the right, collided with a utility pole and landed in the center of the roadway on its roof.

The contact between both vehicles resulted in the death of both operators. Both vehicles sustained heavy disabling damage and were towed from the scene.

Bertulis was initially transported to Waterbury Hospital for sustaining life-threatening injuries.

The cause of this collision remains under investigation.
