It all starts with a good script – Katie Torpey’s Screenwriting Class returns to The Ridgefield Playhouse in November

       

Is having dinner with your relatives a comedy routine? Is interacting with your kids high drama? If your life experiences seem like a sitcom, or you’ve been kicking around a movie idea for years, now’s your chance to put it to paper and share your story with others! Award-winning screenwriter Katie Torpey will teach an 8-week class in screenwriting at The Ridgefield Playhouse beginning Thursday, November 3rd from 7:30 – 9:30 pm.

Students will learn the basics of storytelling and screenwriting including creating the theme, plot, characters, dialogue, conflict, story structure and script format. The objective of this course is to give each student the tools and confidence to be able to write a screenplay from start to finish. Each student will leave the class with a fully developed story, and for some, the first ACT of a screenplay (17-30 pages).

About Katie… Katie Torpey is an award-winning Screenwriter/Filmmaker with an MFA from UCLA School of Film and Television. She has sold several screenplays, written for television, and worked for numerous studios and networks. Her original screenplay The Perfect Man was released in theaters in June 2005 starring Hilary Duff, Heather Locklear and Chris Noth. The following year, her romantic comedy, “On the Other Side,” hit theaters in Bollywood. She wrote and directed the independent film Truth About Kerry shot in Ireland starring Stana Katic (Castle), which was released in April 2012.  She also co-created Mother Up! an animated TV series about motherhood starring Eva Longoria. It was one of Hulu’s first original TV shows, premiered in 2013-14, and ran for 13 episodes on Hulu and City TV in Canada.
