Feeding the Hungry on Thanksgiving

Thanks to the generosity of the community, Bridgeport Rescue Mission provided more than 3,000 families who might otherwise have gone without, with a turkey and bag of fixings so that they could prepare their own homemade Thanksgiving meal.

“With the help of volunteers and financial support from corporate partners, thousands of struggling families also received coats to keep them warm all winter long—all of whom would have gone without this Thanksgiving were it not for compassionate folks in our community giving back” said Executive Director, Terry Wilcox.

“We are grateful to Gold Sponsors:  Affinion Group, GE Capital, Reed Exhibitions and Prime Line for coming alongside us to provide vital funding for our Great ThanksGiving Project and our programs and services throughout the year.”   These companies also provided teams of volunteers who cheerfully greeted members of the community, some of whom had been waiting in line for several hours, to shop for coats and receive their turkeys.  It was a moving experience for all involved.

For the past four years Webster Bank Arena at Harboryard opened its doors to enable the Mission to facilitate the Great ThanksGiving Project in the heart of Bridgeport.  “The need is great said Executive Director, Terry Wilcox and the Mission is grateful to these caring companies who made the Great ThanksGiving Project possible.   Gold Sponsors: Affinion Group, GE Capital, Reed Exhibitions and, Primeline; Silver Sponsor: Barrow Street Capital; Bronze Sponsors: Anholt Services, Bank of America, BizMark, R D Scinto; Copper Sponsors: Arbour Lane Capital, Cannondale Business Solutions, Citizens Bank, GDS Signs, Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, Newtown Savings Bank and Friends of the Mission : Aquarion Water Co, Barteca Restaurant Group, Bombas, Pepsi Bottling Group, Sacred Heart University, Sikorsky, Splash Car Wash, and Westfair TV Audio.
