Stamford Residents win Awards at the Rowayton Arts Center Abstraction Exhibition

The winners, selected by juror Riad Miah, an educator and award-winning abstract painter from New York City, were announced at Sunday’s opening reception of Abstraction. Several Stamford residents won awards: Juliette Tehrani, 2nd place (Drawing), Bruce Horan, 3rd place (Oils) and Kirsti Holtan, 3rd place (Photography). 

Norwalk artist Katharine Draper won Best In Show for her abstract in mixed media, “Entwine,” and was also awarded the Hu Lindsay cash award of $250. This memorial award honors the legacy of Hu Lindsay, a longtime RAC president and graphic designer who died last year. The Lindsay family was at the reception to present the award. The show runs from April 2 through April 23. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday: 11-5pm, Sunday: 1-4 pm. (Closed Monday.)

For an in-depth look at Abstract art, join us for “Slow Art Day” on Saturday, April 8. The Norwalk Arts Commission, in partnership with the Rowayton Arts Center, is hosting this year’s SLOW Art Day program on Saturday, April 8^th from 10 AM – 12 PM at the Rowayton Arts Center.  Riad Miah, juror from Abstraction, will lead the conversation about the artwork. The SLOW art experience offers an intimate, guided look at just a few pieces, along with engaging dialog over light refreshments.  Space is limited. Another event is an OPEN HOUSE on Thursday, April 13 for interior designers, decorators, real estate agents and others who would like a closer look at this exhibit of abstract and contemporary art.  The event is 11am-8pm.

For almost 60 years, the Rowayton Arts Center has been a cultural gem in the community. It is an exceptional gallery where regional artists may exhibit and sell their art as well as a wonderful venue for art workshops and classes. The Art School offers classes to children and adults at all levels.
