FairWest Cup Comes to Chelsea Piers

The FairWest Public School Squash Association, www.fairwestsquash.com, is the largest regional junior squash league in the USA.  Their end-of-season event, The FairWest Cup, is being held this weekend at its home courts at Chelsea Piers in Stamford, CT. The tournament runs Saturday, January 28th from noon to 5:30pm and Sunday, January 29th from noon to 3pm.

The tournament is broken down into two mixed divisions (boys and girls). Each team has seven high school squash players on its roster. Although this is a team tournament, individual players acquire US Squash ranking points as The FairWest Cup is a sanctioned tournament administered by US Squash. The champions of each division are determined by a collective amount of points earned on each of seven lines played by each team member. Whichever team receives the highest number of total points, earns the title.

This is an exciting tournament for all the players as they get to compete against the best public school squash players found in the northeast while supporting each other as a team. The beauty of junior squash team events, is that the players referee each game and coach each other in between games. This is unique to this sport. It demands a high level of integrity and a keen knowledge of the rules of the sport.
