United Way of Greater Waterbury is signing up companies to participate in our annual Day of Action to Stock the Pantry food drive! This year's Stock the Pantry will launch June 2nd, culminating on United Way's annual Day of Action on Friday, June 20, 2014.
The Food Resource Committee, a coalition of area food pantries and soup kitchens working together under the facilitation of United Way, experience a dramatic increase in demand in the summer months which cannot be met by current supply. By joining United Way's Stock the Pantry food drive, you can ensure no one goes hungry this summer.
Here's how Stock the Pantry works:
Your company chooses a specific food item/category from the priority wish list below.
Your company will spread the word to employees to bring in as much of that item as possible between June 2nd and June 20th.
On Friday, June 20th, your company will join other local participating companies in dropping off the food donated at United Way's Day of Action event to be held in the Torrco/United Way parking area, where it will be weighed by Connecticut Food Bank and loaded for delivery.
Your participation will be noted in United Way of Greater Waterbury press materials, website, E-newsletter and throughout social media on our Day of Action.
Feel free to come up with as many fun and effective ways to bring your company together for this common cause. Have departments compete against each other for who can bring the most; set a company goal that if achieved gives the staff a day off; take your category and make a themed week or company brand out of it (i.e. if you choose canned meats: a Tuna Week, Salmon Week, Beef Stew Week; if you choose Peanut Butter & Jelly, promote yourself as the Peanut Butter & Jelly company) or anything you can think of that will help us to feed those in need!
Current Stock the Pantry Wish List Items Include:
Soups & stews
Peanut butter & jelly
Cereal & oatmeal
Macaroni & cheese
Shelf stable milk
I'm sure you'll agree this is a great opportunity for your company to have some fun, while helping local families who are struggling to put food on the table.
