American craft beer has a long tradition in American history, as many taverns and breweries served as meeting places for the American Revolution were our founders debated and advanced the cause for liberty over a cold pint. American craft brewing has seen a renaissance since the 1980s when the Boston Beer Company famous for its Samuel Adams brand of beers and the Harpoon Brewery in Boston became nationally recognized and praised beers. This week, May 12th through May 18th celebrates that tradition, and two Stratford establishments are participating in this nationwide celebration: The Sitting Duck Tavern and Two Roads Brewery.
The Sitting Duck located at Paradise Green is having samples of many different craft and micro brews on tap and in bottle throughout the week. Two Roads is going on a northeastern tour to many different festivals, taverns, restaurants, package stores and social events in New England and New York.
Connecticut has seen growth in craft breweries that include Stratford's own Two Roads Brewery going into its second year, Thomas Hooker Brewery and City Steam Brewery and Comedy Club in metro Hartford, the Half Full Brewery in Stamford, The New England Brewing Company in Norwalk, and more are becoming established and our on their way.
Two Road's Brewmaster. Phil Markowski, spoke of his experience and insights to the American Craft Beer Revolution. "I have been in craft brewing for 25 years and I am amazed at the proliferation of craft breweries, particularly in the northeast. Everywhere you look there are breweries opening. There is a veritable renaissance going on and the movement is not showing any signs of slowing any time soon," he said.
