Saturday, May 31st from 6-9pm, a portion of Main Street in Watertown will be shut down to traffic for the first of three planned Night Out on Main Street events.
According to Events Specialist, Doreen Breen, "this is a repeat of the very successful event from June of 2012 and this year we have scheduled one for May 31, another on June 21 and the third for August 9th."
It is based on the old fashioned block parties and the purpose is to bring the community out to have some fun, eat some good food, be entertained with live music and performances and meet-up with old friends. The plans are definitely to make these events family oriented.
Each has an individual theme and for May 31st, we are encouraging all Watertown/Oakville businesses or residents who have a home based or internet business to set-up on the street to make the community aware of their products and services. There is a fee to setup, since we have a need to offset the costs of the events.
"We are asking everyone involved to make their tables fun, interactive and interesting. "Fun," "family" and "community" are two words that you will hear from Breen as she describes the planning and the events. For this first event in May, participation will be restricted to Watertown/Oakville businesses and residents. Local restaurants are invited to be part of this - "we need lots of food for people" and that will be supplemented with Food Trucks, thanks to the involvement of local business Hardcore Sweet Cupcakes and their owner Nicole Braddock, who is actively supporting these events.
The June 21st event will feature an Art Walk with artists and artisans filling the street and it is not too early to register for that event. The third event will be focused on children and families enjoying this summer time event together, and so many of the activities will be geared to our younger members of the community.
Please consider being a sponsor of these events to help offset the costs.
