The Connecticut Forest and Park Association's Annual Meeting is Sunday, May 18, 2014 - 4:00pm - 6:30pm at Rocky Neck State Park, Niantic, CT.
The keynote speaker for the event is Peter Pinchot who will speak on "Climate change mitigation and forest resilience: The role of forests in the transition to a low carbon economy and a sustainable climate."
Peter Pinchot is a forester and social entrepreneur who works in community forestry in Ecuador and restoration forestry in Pennsylvania. Mr. Pinchot received his Masters degree from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. He is a Senior Fellow at the Pinchot Institute for Conservation and the CEO of EcoMadera Forest Conservation, a for-profit, mission-driven business that partners with Ecuadorian communities to conserve threatened forests. The goal of EcoMadera is to develop a business intervention to address tropical deforestation, which, driven by clearing forests for agriculture, causes roughly 15% of global carbon emissions. Mr. Pinchot leads a research and development project at the Pinchot Institute developing new strategies to make forest conservation and sustainable forestry competitive with global agriculture markets. With EcoMadera Mr. Pinchot collaborates with forest communities to establish a forestry, wood products, and environmental services based economy that drives economic value back to native forests and to the communities that live within them. Earlier in life, Mr. Pinchot was an organic dairy farmer near Cooperstown, New York.
