In Memory, Miles Lewis Davis, Fomer Deacon and Councilman

Long time deacon of the First Baptist Church and former Second (now Third District) Councilman Miles Lewis Davis Jr. entered peaceful rest last week at the age of 76.  Davis survived by his wife of over 50 years, Shirley A. Neal Davis, and his children, Lewis Danrell, Davis, Pamela Davis and Paula 'Missy" Demery, his sister Virgina McCovery, five grandchildren, two godchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Davis was born in Henderson, North Carolina before moving to Bridgeport where he graduated from Bassick High School.  After his time in Bassick, Community service was a calling for Davis throughout his life when he first enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country before being honorably discharged.  Davis earned two graduate degrees in Business Administration and Finance from the University of Bridgeport and worked in finance and insurance for over three decades.  Davis called Stratford his home for the past 49 years where he became active in the First Baptist Church on Stratford Ave as a Sunday School teacher and eventually Deacon of the church.

Davis was also active in public service, being elected to several terms as Councilman to the Second, now Third, district.  In lieu of flowers, family and friends are requesting donations and support to the American Lung Association.  Donations in Deacon Davis's honor can be made online at www.ling.org/donate or at 1-800-LUNGUSA (586-4872).
