Stratford, Milford and Bridgeport marine based firefighter units responded to a blaze aboard a fishing boat on the mouth of the Housatonic River that borders Stratford and Milford Saturday, June 7th, just before noon time. Units from the U.S. Coast Guard also assisted in responding to the boat fire.
The fishing vessel was reported to be fully ablaze and was a 45 foot long commercial fishing vessel. Four people aboard the board were being treated for burn and smoke injuries, and one person was being treated for serious third degree burns. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Additional boaters aided the rescues in rescuing passengers aboard the fishing boat. One commercial boat also aided in providing fire suppression. The Coast Guard has taken the badly burnt boat out of the water.
