Enjoy Brews and Bites on Veteran's Green during Downtown Westport Foodie Fest

Downtown Westport Foodie Fest is two short weeks away, and it will feature a little something for everyone, including micro and craft beer lovers!

Join the Westport Downtown Merchants Association and celebrity chef and cookbook author, Ian Knauer as they co-host a unique beer and bite tasting event, Biergarten on the Green, as part of the three-day Downtown Westport Foodie Fest on Oct. 26 – 28.

As Michael Weed, owner of The Weed Company brewery said recently to Bloomberg Businessweek, "Beer is a celebratory drink and people don't want to drink something that is mass produced. They want something special." And that is what the Biergarten on the Green will offer—something special.

Biergarten guests will be able to taste many of the best micro and craft beers available while enjoying live renditions of waltzes, polkas, and drinking songs by the Zany Oomph Band. Just a sampling of participating breweries: Unibroue, Southern Tier, Sierra Nevada, Otter Creek, Oskar Blues, Merchant du Vin Blue Point, Bever Beer, Widmer Brothers, Goose Island, Shock Top, and The Weed Company, a Milford CT-based, family-owned company that only recently debuted their first beer - Weed Amber Ale.

A complimentary tasting mug and a German-inspired lunch is included in the ticket price as well as the opportunity to watch chef Ian Knauer as he prepares delicious beer-infused food for tasting and provides tips on how to include farm-fresh ingredients – and beer - in your own cooking. His Biergarten menu includes Stout Cake, Wheat Beer Chicken with Orange and Coriander and other surprises with a common ingredient – beer!!

Ian has trained at some of the most prestigious cooking schools in the world; he spent 12 years at Gourmet magazine as a recipe tester and developer and later as Food Editor, and his New York-based catering company had some of the biggest names in the culinary world as clients, including Ina Garten and Ruth Reichl. Ian currently writes for The Wall Street Journal, Men's Health, Gilt Taste, and many others. He also writes and develops recipes for Bon Appétit magazine and is currently filming a 12-episode farm-to-table cooking show based on his book, “The Farm, Rustic Recipes for a Year of Incredible Food,” which chronicles his year on a working farm in Pennsylvania. The show is set to air in spring 2013. Farm-to-table is not a fad for Ian. It is a way of life. He hunts, fishes, keeps bees, and often forages for his dinner.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a food donation for the Westport Farmers Market food drive to benefit the Gillespie Center of Homes with Hope.

Proceeds benefit local non-profit organizations and the WDMA’s downtown beautification efforts.

Biergarten on the Green will take place on Veteran’s Green, across from Westport Town Hall, on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. Tickets are $35 advance tickets at www.westportfoodiefest.com, $40 day-of. 21+, please.

Rain or Shine – we’ve got a BIG tent!
