"Little House on the Prairie" Event

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the publication of "Little House in the Woods," the first in Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House" series. I know this because I looked up the publication date after seeing a notice about a "Little House" event at the Bethel Historical Society posted by our HamletHub Bethel editor, Christie Macomber.

Growing up, I reread these books until they fell apart in my hands and believe they’re at least partly responsible for kindling my fascination with history. The series is still in circulation today, so clearly, I’m not an anomaly. 

If you have a child who enjoys Wilder’s vivid portraits of life on the American West, this event could be a wonderful way to create experiential knowledge.

Here's the notice:

Ever wonder what it would be like to live in the days of "Little House on the Prairie"? Join us as we explore the life of beloved children’s author Laura Ingalls Wilder and her family on Feb. 11, 2012. 

Marble making, baking, butter and doll making, stories, songs and dancing, Make sugar in the snow (weather permitting). Come dressed for life on the prairie.

For ages 5 and up. 

Date: Feb. 11, 2012 

Time: 12:30 to 2 p.m.

Location: Bethel Historical Society, 40 Main St., Bethel
