Bridgeport Rescue Mission Urges Community to Help Stuff-A-Truck with Food for Hungry People
Bridgeport Rescue Mission’s food pantry historically runs low in the summer months, and they’re asking the community to Stuff-A-Truck with food to feed hungry families and individuals throughout coastal Fairfield County.
On July 22 and 23, Mission staff and volunteers will be on hand at area Stop & Shop supermarkets from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to collect items. Groceries donated during the Stuff-A-Truck food drive will be used to prepare the meals the Mission provides each day in its dining rooms, on its two Mobile Kitchens as well as for the Pantry Bags distributed daily to people in need.
“It’s been a difficult year for many of our city’s working-poor families and homeless individuals,” said Executive Director Terry Wilcox. “Many are having to choose between paying the rent or buying groceries. Despite parents’ best efforts, some children aren’t getting enough to eat. We must remain prepared to help. This event is a fun and easy way to ensure we have the food we need to provide hot meals and pantry bags for hungry men, women and children today and in the coming months.”
Those who want to help are asked to bring bags of the items listed below to their favorite Stop & Shop stores or buy them when shopping for their own groceries. Mission staff and volunteers will be on site to receive the donation.
Food items needed: canned soup and vegetables, tuna, beans, macaroni & cheese, Ramen noodles, cold cereal, powdered drink mix and coffee.
Participating Stop & Shop locations:
On Friday, July 22nd: Norwalk – Connecticut Ave, Stratford – E. Main St. and Trumbull – Quality St.
On Saturday, July 23rd: Fairfield – Villa Ave and Kings Highway, Bridgeport – Main St, Westport – Post Rd, and Monroe – Monroe Turnpike.
