Rhythms of Hope for Hurricane Relief on Saturday in Westport

The Unitarian Church in Westport hosts Rhythms of Hope

With TV, Social Media and newspaper coverage of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma bringing concern to our hearts and tears to our eyes, many of us are looking for ways to help.

“Rhythms of Hope,” a benefit Drum Circle facilitated by Randy Brody, will give the community a chance to connect and contribute to this vital cause and send help to the victims of these devastating hurricanes.

Rhythms of Hope, sponsored by Sound Directions and Social Justice Outreach at The Unitarian Church will raise funds for Direct Relief, providing medical supplies to support nonprofit community clinics and health centers that provide services to the people who are most vulnerable, who rely on the healthcare safety net for essential medical services. 100% of donations will be used exclusively for that effort in areas affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

The benefit will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2:00-5:00pm at The Unitarian Church in Westport, 10 Lyons Plains Road. Suggested donations are $20 for adults and $10 for seniors (62+).  Free for children under 12.

Westport resident Randy Brody, director of Sound Directions, is donating his facilitation and drumming skills for the drum circle.  He has been facilitating drum circles in this area for 28 years, at venues and events including the Westport Public Library, Project Return, Abilis Westport/Greenwich, Save the Children, Staples High School, First Night Westport/Weston, the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society and the Westport Center for Senior Activities.

“I would like to invite everyone to come and drum with us,” said Brody. “And on a personal note, I have many friends and relatives in Texas and Florida who have been affected by the hurricanes.”

“Rhythms of Hope will be something the whole family can participate in, while they collectively help those in need,” added Brody.  “And no experience is necessary to participate.”
