The Dedication and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for the new Westport Weston Family Y facility will take place on Thursday, Aug. 28, at 7 pm. This special event will involve Y volunteers, donors, staff, and members as well as an array of state and local civic leaders and public officials.
Due to open to members and the community in September, the new 54,000 sq. ft. facility at the Y's 32-acre summer-camp property along the Saugatuck River will be known as the Bedford Family Center, in honor of the Y's founder, E.T. Bedford, and the continuing support of our Y by his descendants.
Constructed at a cost of $38.5 million, the new Y includes a 10-lane, 25-yard lap pool and adjacent warm-water family/teaching/therapeutic pool; a 5,600 sq. ft. Wellness Center with expansive views of the Saugatuck River and wooded Mahackeno grounds; multi-purpose Gymnasium; three group-fitness studios; a Kids' Club child watch area; a cafe for members; five locker rooms, including one for those with dependent care; and other amenities of a modern, family-oriented Y facility.
