Mr. Inside and Mr. Outside at West Point

Journalist and sportswriter Jack Cavanaugh will be the Y’s Men of Westport/Weston’s featured speaker at its October 9 meeting at the Unitarian Church in Westport at 10 Lyons Plain Road. He will speak on his latest book Mr. Inside and Mr. Outside, the story of Heisman Trophy winners Felix “Doc” Blanchard and Glenn Davis, teammates on West Point’s undefeated football teams of 1944-1946. Coffee and donuts start at 9:45 AM; Mr. Cavanaugh’s talk at 10:30 AM.

A native of Stamford and graduate from Syracuse University, Mr. Cavanaugh got his start as a journalist at various newspapers and news agencies from Providence to Washington and a reporter at ABC News and CBS News before settling into a 25-year career primarily as a sportswriter for the New York Times. He has written books on Gene Tunney, the great NY Giants football teams of the 1950’s and early 1960’s, the Gipper at Notre Dame, and the 1942 baseball season in the midst of WWII. His latest book carries the theme of war and sports farther to the great Army football teams at the end of and just after that war.

The Y's Men of Westport/Weston is an organization of semi-retired and retired men with a continued interest in activity, fellowship, learning and community service.
