Westport Sunrise Rotary Wine Tasting This Friday 10/24

Westport Sunrise Rotary is hosting its 25th Annual Wine and Beer Tasting on Friday, October 24, at Christ & Holy Trinity Church, from 6:30 to 9:30.

Guests will sample from among 60 wines - from a light champagne to fuller bodied after dinner wines. Each of the ten tables will offer six tastes specially selected for the event. Each table will present a great “value wine” and a “show stopper.”

There will also be 12 beers, again specially selected by Cory D’Addario of Liquor Locker - all artisan, most imported - few that all but the beer connoisseur knows.

The wines will be accompanied by a delightful menu - from hors d’oeuvres and finger food to filet and turkey from a carving table - all presented by Bon Soiree of Weston. You will enjoy international cheeses accompanied by baskets of assorted crackers and breads, a selection of olives and marinated mushrooms, a Pate d’Courvoiser, finger foods served by waiters, and a fruit compote to freshen the palette.

With wines, beers and dining as the backdrop - along with the beautiful voice of Suzanne Tanner for your entertainment - the evening’s feature will be a live auction.

The auction will showcase 15 items and packages, with values from $500 to priceless.

The centerpiece is a South African Photo Safari for two at Zulu Nyala Game Lodge. Enjoy a six day, six night adventure, offering two daily safaris to photograph big game - elephants, rhinos, leopards, giraffes and more - from the comfort of a Land Rover. You’ll get three meals a day, though airfare, side trips and personal expenses are not included. This package is valued at $6,000, and the winning bidder will have up to two years to enjoy it.

Baseball fans - Take in a 2015 Yankees game at the new Yankee Stadium: four cushioned Field MVP Club Seats on the first base side, complimentary food and non-alcoholic beverages, entry to the Field MVP Club Lounge and a parking pass. Your choice of games except ones against the Red Sox or Mets.

This package also includes a framed autograph of Joltin’ Joe himself, a Hall of Fame player whose 56 consecutive game hitting streak is occasionally challenged, but still stands after 72 years. This is a one-off, obtained by its donor in a street sighting, not as a big bucks purchase at an autograph show. It makes a $1,000 ticket package priceless.

Or send that special child to a two week getaway at beautiful Camp Cody in Ossipee, NH. Cody is a "traditional summer camp for boys and girls" between seven and fifteen, offering a long list of sports and aquatics, gymnastics, dance and dramatics, painting, model rocketry, photography and music. And kissing the first fish a camper catches is a Cody tradition. This is a $3,300 value with a minimum bid of $1,900.

Own a one of a kind Sunrise Rotary Wheelbarrow full of wine. All wines will be chosen by club members. What will be in the barrow - donated by Cross Roads Hardware - won't be known until the auction. 24 bottles? 36? Perhaps as many as 50. But be prepared to take away a truly unique collection.

Other packages include four separate rounds of golf - two at Aspetuck Valley Country Club, one at The Patterson Club, the other at Shore Haven Country Club. All include golf for three guests and the member, and either lunch before or a round of adult refreshments afterward; a full estate plan valued at $3,000 (minimum bid $750) by Ken Bernhard, a partner at Cohen & Wolf in Westport; a $1,000 plus Ladies Boutique Package including gift certificates for Mitchell’s, Vincent Palumbo Salon, for a facial, manicure and pedicure, a handbag from Lynn Ostilly Boutique and a necklace from Beadmaker; and many more.

Purchase your ticket for $50 from a Sunrise Rotarian, or at Fairfield County Bank at the corner of Post Road East and Compo Road South, or buy at the door for $75.
