Bring the entire family to a performance of holiday music by Yale University’s East Rock Quintet on Sunday, December 14, at 2 pm in the Westport Library’s McManus Room. The program, free and open to the public, will include holiday works ranging from Renaissance and Baroque to contemporary. After the performance, children are invited to meet the quintet and experience playing the instruments.
The group, performing on two trumpets, two trombones and a French horn, are an experienced ensemble of award-winning masters and doctoral candidates at the Yale School of Music. Members include Patrick Durbin (trumpet), Daniel Fears (bass trombone), Thomas Park (horn), Curtis Biggs* (trombone) and Carl Stanley (trumpet). *December 14 performer: Elizabeth Shafer (tenor trombone).
Formed in 2013, the group performs a wide range of repertoire from medieval to modern throughout the Northeast. This past summer the ensemble was invited to be the Brass Quintet in Residence at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, where they performed with the internationally acclaimed Empire Brass Quintet, St. Louis Brass Quintet and the New York Woodwind Quintet.
