Kate Mattias, executive director of National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Connecticut, discusses how to identify depression and what to do if help is needed. The program is free and open to the public, and will be held on Monday, January 12, at 6:30 pm in the Westport Library's McManus Room.
Mattias holds a masters degree in Public Health from Columbia University and received her law degree from Quinninpiac University School of Law. While at NAMI Connecticut the last eight years, she has overseen the expansion of numerous education and support initiatives on mental illness targeted to educators. She has conducted community presentations in both English and Spanish intended to decrease the stigma associated with mental illness, and offers a support-group initiative to help young adults living with mental health challenges.
